Renowned mbira player and teacher Caution Shonhai will be hosting Camp Pamuzinda from 9am February 5th to 9am February 18, 2017.
About Camp Pamuzinda
The camp will be at Nyamayaro village in Nyamweda, Mhondoro, Zimbabwe. this is a great opportunity to learn how to play traditional mbira as well as other associated customs.The camp will be accessible to beginner and intermediate players,while advanced will be given extra instruction and challenges. The daily schedule will consist of learning the leading part in the morning and responding part in the afternoon,then learning the accompanying singing in the evening.Between mbira and singing,there will also be hosho and dance lessons. For late afternoon, students will have the choice of resting, shopping or visiting nearby places. In the evening students will play together with the teacher and will have opportunity for individual instruction with the guest teacher. Caution will further assist in the teaching of mbira and singing. There will also be several culture talks,offering insight into Shona customs,beliefs,and language. Two days will be devoted to learning Chidzimba, Mhemberwa and Mutumba drumming in Mhondoro. This is a wonderfully unique experience,hosted by Zimbabweans and consisting of music steeped in Zimbabwe’s rich cultural and spiritual history.The Teachers
